A Clear Admission

A lot of bloggers, myself included in the post below, took Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to task for her statement giving credit to the Iranians for calling off hostilities in Basra. To remind you:

Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn’t happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians.

But considered from another perspective, this represents a rather startling admission from The Democratic leadership. Pelosi has acknowledged that in Basra, we were fighting the Iranians.

She has stated clearly that the Iranian government was controlling the forces we were fighting.

What is tragic thing is that she will not want to do anything about it.
