A Missed Opportunity

There are very few moments in which a nation can change the world. The United States has had many such opportunities and moments. These opportunities arose out of the fertile ground of freedom. For a small relatively poor nation opportunities to change the world are harder to come by. Lebanon has such an opportunity and I fear they may let it pass them by.

As Israel began gathering troops along the border with Lebanon in preparation for combat with Hezbollah terrorists, the Lebanese government indicated that were Israel to invade their territory that they would take up the fight of the terrorists against Israel. If they do so, they will have missed their chance to change the world.

Imagine what it would mean to the Middle East and the world if Lebanon got into the fight on the side of Israel and against Hezbollah. Imagine what would happen if the Lebanese government began rounding up Hezbollah terrorists and the Lebanese army began taking out Hezbollah terrorists strongholds. Imagine what would happen if Lebanon and Israel reached an agreement that when they had together destroyed Hezbollah than Israel would withdraw from Lebanon and the Lebanese government came in and asserted it's authority in their wake.

What would it mean to the Mid East and the world if Israel could do for the fledgling democracy of Lebanon what the U.S. is doing for Iraq. If Lebanon truly wants to live up to the Cedar Revolution, they should move to revolutionize the entire region.
