By Way of Comparison
I was reading this post at helluvablog (after I didn't read it - see the comments) and this comparison sprang to mind.
There were two constitutional referendums held this year. One resulted in voters approving a constitution that lead to the election of a new government. The other was rejected.
Somehow the failure of one seems to have gone as unnoticed as the success of the other.

I did notice the results of both referendums, but I'm not sure I grasp your point. My point in my post was that a social-democratic system of government will never be as powerful or successful as a more capitalist system. This is true whether that system is implemented in individual nations (as now) or the future EU.

Actually, the comparison was irrelevant to your post other than that it brought it to mind. It was more an observation on how important the EU vote was to the MSM before it got voted down, then the whole issue seemed to vanish.
