Gone Sailing
The Volvo Ocean Race has begun. Leg one started today and will cover 6,500 miles from Alacante, Spain to Cape Town, South Africa by way of a rounding mark off the coast of Brazil. Here is the video of the start of racing today.
As much as I would like, I cannot actually be part of the race I decided to do the next best thing and enter the Virtual Race. The yacht Hold The Mayo is as of this writing in 6583rd place. But there are more than 13,000 entries in the race so I'm far from last.
There are lots of extras you can get like an auto pilot, and having the program pick the best sail for you. You get them by redeeming points- which you buy. I've decided to sail around the world on the cheep.
Here's what happened at the start. I had set a course I wanted to take off the line but was unable to get to the game until this evening and sailed into a large wind shift ad was left with the wrong sail up and a speed of 0 knots.
I've since changed course and am underway but sailing in light winds. It looks like there are some better winds ahead though it gets a little confused around Gibraltar. Hold The Mayo should reach the Rock in about 2 days.

Is that the Mediterranean or a Pepto Bismol commercial; you know, the one where they coat the entire stomach with soothing pink slime when you ate too much spicy food?

First - There's no such thing as too much spicy food.
Second - That's a small part of the med
Third - The way the race is going a little Pepto might be a good thing!
