Hold the Mayo Racing Update 1:4
Today was a good day for the yacht Hold the Mayo.
When I got up this morning I was in the Atlantic going along and a nice 21 knots on a westerly course. Since I had signed off he night before I had passed 153 boats. Putting me at 17,232.
I changed course to a more Southwesterly heading. This also put me on a better angle to the wind and pushed the boat speed up to 29 knots. I kept passing boats all morning. Usually about 20 to 30 every 10 minute cycle. Then at 11:00 I crossed the point where my position in the fleet was no longer distorted by land masses. (The system calculates relative positions on a crow flies basis.)
The upshot is that the 5000 plus boats that passed me in one 10 minute cycle yesterday were behind me once again.
Boat speed was up to 31 knots and I will still passing boats every cycle. By late afternoon my position was under 10,000.
By early evening the wind was at 27 knots out of the north-northeast and boat speed was up over 36 knots where it has been for several hours. For a while the pace at which I was passing boats slowed, but the last few cycles have all been above 30.
