John Edwards MD (Medical Dictator)
Need another reason not to vote for John Edwards. Aside from his preaching faux populism from his gigantic mansion as he fluffs his $400 hair cut? Try imaging this as your future:
Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal healthcare proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.
''It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,'' he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. ``If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.(emphasis added)''You're familiar with the expression "cradle to grave socialism?" Edwards doesn't come right out and say it, but he gets as close as any American politician has in a long time.
''The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death,'' he said.I've said it before, but it warrants repeating: I prefer to have my health care decisions made by someone who actually gives a damn if I live or die.
I think Edwards needs to go back to suing people. It would make him slightly more respectable.

This Universal HillaryCare really makes me sick to my stomach. I guess I need to go to the doctor now.
The fallacy here is that the gov't needs to be more involved in healthcare to make it less expensive and more responsive. The real problem is that they are already too involved! The debate has only been between the socialists and the corporatists.
How about if we ask the FDA to stop protecting Big Pharma and other special interests from competition and allow all modalities of care to have equal footing in the marketplace. Also, scale back some of the excessive licensing laws in the medical fields - There's no reason why one can't go to a nurse practitioner for a cold or flu, for half the price of a doctor... Then watch prices go down and quality up.
Real free markets really do work, it's just that most of us have forgotten what they really are - They require an absence of socialist central planning and coercion, allowing consumers to freely make choices with their money. In a real free market, the most powerful exercise of democracy comes from one's checkbook.

So testing is mandatory - men having to get prostate exams is going to be really popular.
Is surgery mandatory too, or do I get a choice about that?

No. I guess there is only one medical decision that is a a matter of privacy between the patient and the doctor and thus a matter of personal choice.

Mandatory testing also means that the gov't would be storing mountains of medical data on us.
Do we want this?
